DHEA-S
DHEA-S (Dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate) is a hormone primarily produced in the adrenal cortex. It serves as a precursor for male and female sex hormones such as testosterone and estrogen. The concentration is highest in young adulthood and decreases with age.
Abnormal values may indicate disorders of the adrenal glands or hormonal balance. Elevated levels occur, for example, in certain tumors or hormonal hyperfunctions, while low levels may indicate adrenal insufficiency.
