Trichomonas vaginalis is a single-celled parasite that causes a sexually transmitted infection. Typical symptoms can include itching, burning, or unusual discharge, but often the infection remains asymptomatic.
A PCR test can reliably detect the DNA of the parasite. Early treatment prevents the transmission of the infection and possible inflammation in the genital area.
